The exhibition “Cyfarthfa: Juxtaposed”, organised by Cyfarthfa Castle Museum & Art Gallery in Merthyr Tydfil to mark the 200th anniversary of the Castle, invited contemporary artists to engage in a dialogue with the heritage of the place. Each participant was asked to select an artwork from the museum’s collection and create a personal, contemporary interpretation. The project became a meeting point between history and the present — a confrontation between Wales’s industrial past and the artists’ individual sensibilities.

My work was awarded in the photography category. The jury, led by Dr Bronwen Colquhoun, described it as “an incredibly powerful and beautifully composed portrait which explores themes around identity and belonging, set against the backdrop of place.” The photograph was conceived as a contemporary response to an artwork from the museum’s collection, reflecting on the relationship between people, landscape, and memory.
